10 Feb : Women Work and Health Initiative (WWHI) Delhi Based NGO conducted Training of Trainers programme for the programme coordinators of Sitamarhi and Madhubani District of Bihar at Hotel Samrat, Patna.
The project is linked to migration & HIV AIDS and is funded by Embassy of Finland, Delhi. Ms Amita Sahaya, Secretary WWHI welcomed the guests and First Secretary, Embassy of Finland Sanna Selin expressed her satisfaction on the ongoing project. Noted Physician and HIV AIDS expert, Dr Diwakar Tejaswi in his key note address explained in detail the epidemiological feature of HIV AIDS in Bihar, modes of transmission, prevention, signs and symptoms, and available treatment options. He informed that officially more than 24,000 persons in Bihar are living with the virus and more than 4000 are on anti retroviral treatment. According to Mobile Awareness and Testing (MAT) round finding conducted by Bihar State AIDS Control Society, Sitamarhi District recorded 3.7% HIV prevalence and in 8 districts of Bihar the prevalence is more that 1%, which is alarming.
Others who were present on the ocassion included Mr R R Prasad, Ex DGP and Member Human Rights Commission, Prof Maya Shankar and Mr Gyan Ranjan President Patna Network of People Living with HIV AIDS.
