The Department of Anatomy, PGIMER,Chandigarh feels proud to receive the body of “Soldier of Humanity: Headmaster Rattan Singh” Setting a valiant example for the society, S. Rattan Singh, who passed away yesterday, donated his body to PGI. As per his will, he wanted his body to be “donated” to PGI so that his organs may be useful for the needy and the poor. Moreover, his body may become useful for research, which will certainly benefit the future generations and mankind. As per his will, his body was handed over to the Department of Anatomy PGIMER by his family.
In his will he further mentioned that no religious ceremony should be performed after his death. Born in a backward village of Kheri Salabatpur, Ropar (distt.), he started his career as a JBT teacher. He was a follower of Marxism and remained committed to the left thoughts throughout his life. Due to his progressive thoughts, he formed a dramatic club and a sports committee in the village, which used to organize drama festivals and sports tournaments annually, with the help of village youth with similar thoughts. He used to write and direct dramas himself. He was also a Punjabi writer whose works have been published in many renowned newspapers and Punjabi magazines.
A gathering will be held to pay tribute to this soldier of humanity on 6th May 2012 at his residence, Kothi no. 529, Phase-2, Mohali.The department is grateful to his family and admires for this noble gesture.
