Chandigarh : A one day Nursing Superintendents workshop on HIV/AIDS Prevention Care Support and Treatment under the Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Project – Round was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sandhya Ghai ( Principal) and Dr. Avinash Kaur Rana (Principal Coordinator) at National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER Chandigarh on 4th Dec., 2012 in which a total number of 32 Nursing Superintendents/ Deputy Nursing Superintendent/ Assistant Nursing Superintendents/Matrons from Government and Private Hospitals of Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh enthusiastically took part.
The Chief Guest of the workshop Prof. A. K. Gupta (Medical Superintendent) Nehru Hospital, Prof. & Head, Deptt of Hospital Administration, PGIMER, Chandigarh emphasized the need of orienting nurses regarding HIV/AIDS prevention and care and discrimination in the society regarding people living with HIV AIDS. Dr. Asha Sharma, Vice President cum Advisor (Technical) from Indian Nursing Council (INC) presented the GFATM Project Updates. Dr. Archana Mohan, Consultant, SACS Chandigarh highlighted the Scenario of HIV in Chandigarh city and Punjab and discussed about the facilities available for the PLHIVs. Important topics related to HIV/ AIDS –infection control Practices and PEP, and the involvement of Nursing Superintendents were discussed by Dr. Avinash Kaur Rana, Lecturer, NINE and Dr. Sunita Sharma Lecturer, NINE. Update for the Supportive Supervision was given by Ms. Poornima, representative from Futures Group. In the group discussions on case studies the participants expressed that the whole session was a very good learning experience for them. Vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Blessy.
