Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, a day before Chinese President Xi Jinping reaches Gujarat. Preceding his visit, BJP president Amit Shah arrived at Ahmedabad on Monday and was welcomed by party activists.
A special dome is being raised at the airport for Modi to address party workers on his arrival.Modi was Gujarat chief minister from 2001 until he became the PM in May.Modi will set aside protocol and himself receive Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Chinese President will be in India on a three-day sojourn that will also take him to Delhi.
The PM will himself receive Xi on his arrival from Colombo on Wednesday afternoon.A guard of honour will be presented to Xi who will be accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan and a high-level delegation.It will be the first guard of honour to any head of government on the tarmac of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport of Ahmedabad.
Informed sources told a news agency that a contingent of the Indian Air Force will present the guard of honour to Xi.
