Chandigarh February 11 : The drugs are been treated as sources of hefty income and virtually has become a business for everyone. Public is already aware of “Drug Rascal”, and there is a desperate need to find result oriented solutions for it.
The solution could be met only if one is committed, having a strong will power, spirit to morality, claimed Indresh Kumar, chief patron of Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS).
Kumar was addressing a gathering of members of Chandigarh Chapter of the FANS including prominent persons of city and Panjab University students while addressing a seminar orgainsed on ‘Proxy War through Drugs’ at Golden Jubilee Hall, Panjab University, Chandigarh, last night.
In his key address Indresh Kumar said, “No problem is huge. In this universe there is no question without an answer. But the law makers, bureaucrats and politicians must have a commitment and strong will power to find the result oriented solutions”. The intention to do business or trading will not help in curbing the menace, he claimed
Shyam Jaju, BJP National Vice President, and Incharge party affairs Delhi and Uttrakhand, emphasized on a collective need from society, government, NGOs and intellectuals to working for evaluating the factors and then find the solutions for drug eradication.
He said population should not be considered as a liability but an asset and must be mobalised and channalised for constructive causes.
Earlier, Ari Marhal (Dr.) RC Bajpai, brief about formation of the FANS and said when Pakistan failed to give shape to its notorious attempts against India, it launched a Proxy war by supply drugs and targeting youth to weaken the nation.
“Apart from this attempts have been made to involve in the drug trade, criminal activities. Drug addiction affects mental and physical power,” he said.
Vineet Joshi, Assistant Media Advisor to the Punjab Government, in his address opined that the families, society and government have to join hand against the drug menace. The diminishing joint family culture and fast acceptance of Western culture is another major reason of rapid multiplying problem, claimed Joshi adding that “We have to find our roots and incultivate human values among our children”.
Vijay Kumar Dev, Advisor to UT Administrator, who was the guest of honour, said, “We have to be fans of our country and not any individual. Enemies are forcing our ‘Lions’ to make them sheep by drug-traps. The war against drug is to be fought collectively and we should keep ourselves fit in case need for the motherland.”
Dr. Khushpal Singh, a main speaker, while presenting a paper informed that the government is unaware of the total in house production of drugs, like poppy and cannabis. In Indian just 1 per cent of the drugs, produced and circulated within ithe country is recovered while there is no whereabouts of 99 per cent of the contraband.
Dr. Pramod Kumar of IDC, also presented facts relating to its origin, supply and solutions, he however, claimed that the problem was not so big if compared with other countries but is seriously taken up and the Indian porous borders with neighbouring countries need to be plugged.
LM Goel, president of the Chandigarh Chapter of FANS along with Pardeep Bansal & Raj Kishor General Secretary of the Chandigarh Chapter of FANS introduced the gathering on the formation of the chapter.
The gathering also observed a minute’s silence to pay tributes to the soldiers killed in the Siachen avalanche tragedy, in the beginning of the seminar.
