Govt approves 5 pc disinvestment in NTPC

19 Oct : Union Cabinet has decided to disinvest 5 percent in public sector Undertaking- National thermal Power Corporation while disinvestment of 10 percent will be made in another public sector company– Satluj Vidyut Nigam Limited.

After this disinvestment, government’s share in NTPC will remain 84.5 per cent. This was informed by Commerce Minister Anand Sharma. He was briefing news persons after the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in New Delhi on Monday.

The government, at present, holds 89.5 per cent stake in NTPC.At the present valuation, the government may be able to raise over Rs 8,000 crore by divesting five per cent stake in the company, which generates over 30,000 MW of power annually.
Its market capitalisation currently stands at Rs 1,72,000 crore.
