Munda to be sworn in Jharkand CM tomorrow http://www.theindiapost.com/jharkhand/munda-to-be-sworn-in-jharkand-cm-tomorrow/ http://www.theindiapost.com/jharkhand/munda-to-be-sworn-in-jharkand-cm-tomorrow/#comments Fri, 10 Sep 2010 19:06:41 +0000 The India Post http://www.theindiapost.com/?p=22065 10 Sep :Arjun Munda will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Jharkand on Saturday to head the eighth government in 10 years, as the coalition leader takes over the reins in the shadow of BJP stalwart L K Advani giving the oath ceremony a miss.

Munda, the 42-year-old tribal leader, will be the chief minister of the mineral-rich state for the third time heading a BJP-JMM-AJSU coalition and leaders of two alliance parties are also expected to take oath along with him.

No chief minister has ever completed a term since the state was carved out of Bihar on 15th November, 2000.

The leader mentioned the names of AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto and JMM leader Hemant Soren- son of JMM supremo and former chief minister Shibu Soren.

Mahto and Soren are tipped to be deputy chief ministers.

With Governor M O H Farooq having directed Munda to prove his majority in the 81-member assembly within a week after being sworn in, the leader said the Cabinet may be expanded after the floor test, which might take place on 14th September.

The Union Cabinet on Thursday recommended that President’s Rule be revoked in Jharkand enabling the Governor to invite Munda to form the government.

BJP and JMM have 18 MLAs each and support of 27 other legislataors in the 81-member house.

Munda can have a maximum of 12 ministers in his cabinet including himself.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have attributed Advani’s decision not to attend the function to two major festivals –Eid and Ganesh Chaturthi–on Saturday.

“Several leaders will attend the swearing-in function, many will not be able to go as there are two festivals on the same day,” BJP chief spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad told reporters in New Delhi when asked if Advani would go to Jharkhand.

Prasad refused to reply to queries if the issue of choosing Munda as the chief minister had created divisions within the party.

The move to form a government with JMM support was widely seen as an initiative by BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

Munda had staked claim on 7th September and the same day the Governor had recommended to the Centre for revocation of Presidents Rule.

Two terror suspects sneak into Mumbai, high alert sounded http://www.theindiapost.com/headline/two-terror-suspects-sneak-into-mumbai-high-alert-sounded/ http://www.theindiapost.com/headline/two-terror-suspects-sneak-into-mumbai-high-alert-sounded/#comments Fri, 10 Sep 2010 18:10:23 +0000 The India Post http://www.theindiapost.com/?p=22055 10 Sep : Two suspected foreign terrorists have sneaked into the metropolis to cause disruption at crowded places and religious congregations, Mumbai police warned on Friday, setting off alarm bells on the eve of Eid and Ganeshotsav festivities.

A high alert has been sounded across the city and suburbs with the police issuing an advisory to the citizens to remain vigilant and watch out for the militants whose nationality it did not disclose.

“We have received information from Central Intelligence agencies about two suspected terrorists sneaking into Maharashtra,” Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told reporters.

Photographs of the two – a clean-shaven Kalimuddin Khan alias Rameshwar Pandit (28) and bearded Hafij Khijir Ulla Sarif (25) sporting a skull cap, were released by Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy at a hurriedly called press conference.

“We would like to issue an advisory…We have Intelligence inputs that two foreign nationals have entered the city with intention to cause disruption at crowded and religious places,” Roy said.

“We appeal to the citizens to remain alert and inform the police if they spot the two,” he said, adding the duo had entered the city only recently.

The police have set up dedicated phone numbers — 22633333 and 22625020 — to enable the people to pass on information about the militants and in case of emergency.

Roy declined to share with the media any information about the terror group the duo belong to citing “operational reasons” and said several teams have been formed to track them down.

When asked if “disruption” could mean a terror strike, Roy said, “We do not want to share anything more than this. We are taking all precautions to ensure incident-free festival.”

Replying to a question about the local support these foreign militants might have, he said, “We cannot share this information with you at the moment. Having more eyes and ears than personnel of Mumbai police together have will be more useful and so we have asked the people to be alert and vigilant.”

Following the inputs, a massive security cover has been thrown in and around Lalbaug, particularly at Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh idol, where over 1,500 policemen have been deployed round-the-clock.

Besides these, personnel drawn from CRPF, State Reserve Police Force and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad have been stationed at the pandal.Popular Posts:

Hindus tell Japan to “wake up & re-charter its path” in view of high suicide rates http://www.theindiapost.com/world/hindus-tell-japan-to-%e2%80%9cwake-up-re-charter-its-path%e2%80%9d-in-view-of-high-suicide-rates/ http://www.theindiapost.com/world/hindus-tell-japan-to-%e2%80%9cwake-up-re-charter-its-path%e2%80%9d-in-view-of-high-suicide-rates/#comments Fri, 10 Sep 2010 17:46:11 +0000 The India Post http://www.theindiapost.com/?p=22044 10 Sep : Hindus have suggested Japan to “rethink and re-plan its course” in view of its having one of the highest suicide rates.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that despite being world’s second-largest economy, remarkable growth, source of global capital and credit, high living standards, and highest life expectancy; the high suicide rate indicated that there was something basic wrong with the direction Japanese society was heading. Japanese urgently needed to find their purpose of life.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, suggested Japanese to realize the Self. Quoting ancient scripture Taittiriya Upanishad, he says that Self is the source of abiding joy. Katha Upanishad points out that when wise realize the Self, they go beyond sorrow. Self is supreme… When one realizes Self, there is nothing else to be known.

According to reports, over 32, 000 Japanese committed suicide last year. The most popular spot for suicides was said to be forested area at the base of Mount Fuji. Railroad tracks were also common location for suicides.Popular Posts:

Coordinated drive to tackle dengue: Azad http://www.theindiapost.com/health/coordinated-drive-to-tackle-dengue-azad-2/ http://www.theindiapost.com/health/coordinated-drive-to-tackle-dengue-azad-2/#comments Fri, 10 Sep 2010 04:44:59 +0000 The India Post http://www.theindiapost.com/?p=22038 10 Sep : With dengue cases crossing last year’s figure of 1,153 in Delhi, Government on Friday said it would launch a special cleaning drive from 6th September to prevent breeding of mosquitoes even as it assured that the strain prevalent this year was far less lethal.

After a meeting with all the civic agencies of the capital as well as the Delhi Government, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters that from Monday a massive, coordinated cleaning operation for two days would be launched which would cover all roads, lanes and bylanes.

The operation would be conducted by MCD, NDMC, CPWD and the cantonment board.

“Mostly big roads are being cleaned and small lanes, bylanes and houses are kept unattended,” Azad said.

He said that the ministry has also asked agencies like Metro and CPWD to close work in areas where construction is over and use insecticides at the sites of under-construction projects.

“We have also asked the Delhi Government to ensure cleanliness in all government hospitals,” Azad said adding MCD has been asked to form ward-level committees to take responsibility of cleaning up the areas.

The Health Minister said he has requested MCD to institute awards for best performing wards in the cleanliness drive.

The meeting also arrived at a decision to provide Resident Welfare Associations in all localities with the chemical ‘Tamiphos’ which can be sprayed to kill mosquitoes and their larvae.

“All Government buildings specially multi-storied ones would be monitored to check for breeding in their water tanks, coolers and other places where water collects,” Azad said.

MCD and NDMC have also been asked to open call centres where people can call and report any breeding or water logging.

Azad, however, clarified that there was no need to panic as the dengue strain in circulation was of type-I variety, which is far less lethal.

He repeated his contention that the outbreak was massive this year because of the large-scale construction activity and excess monsoons.

Azad said efforts made by various agencies to contain the disease so far were isolated attempts and in Friday’s over two-hour long meeting, there was a unanimous decision to coordinate efforts.

“There was no passing the buck,” he added.

The meeting was attended by Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia, Mayor Kanwar Sain, Health Secretary Sujatha Rao and other senior officials as well as representatives of hospitals, NDMC, Cantonment Board and CPWD.

The city had recorded 1,55 dengue cases this year, crossing the last years’s mark of 1,153. Three persons have died.

According to statistics released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the number of cases till this time in 2009 was only four.

The figure was 92 and 22 in the same periods in 2008 and 2007 respectively.

According to the MCD, in the previous years, the total number of dengue cases and deaths were 1,312 and 2 (2008), 548 and 1 (2007) and 3,366 and 36 (2006).Popular Posts:
