Dehradun, November 6 : Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Bhagat Singh Koshiyari has joined the list of proud Indian MP even as he addressed the 64th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday night.
Focusing his address on the designated topic of “International Drug Control”, Koshiyari reiterated India’s commitment to the implementation of the declaration. “India’s resolve to fight the menace of illicit drugs remains steadfast,” Koshiyari said, adding that the India supports a balanced approach that relies on the destruction of illicit drug crops while at the same time providing alternative means of livelihood to the farmers adversely affected by such destruction.
Koshiyari described drug trafficking as more of a transnational crime and one of the main sources of financing terrorist activities. “It cannot be tacked individually or in isolation. Bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation has to be recognised as a key element of any strategy to effectively combat this problem,” Koshiyari said.
He also extended India’s unwavering commitment to working closely with the international community in eliminating the world drug and attendant problems, including narco terrorism and the financing of terrorism through drugs.
Congress MP Vijay Bahuguna also had the opportunity among Uttarakhandis to address the UN assembly in the recent times.
