DJB collects 16 lakh as penalty for water wastage

25 Apr : With water shortage looming large in the city as peak summer season sets in, Delhi Jal Board has launched a crackdown on those wasting the precious commodity, a move aimed at bridging the demand and supply gap.

·         Determined to stop misuse of water, DJB which manages the city’s water supply, has already collected Rs 16 lakh in the last one month by imposing penalty for wastage of water.

The drive against water wastage is understood to have gained momentum following a directive of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is also chairperson of the agency.

“Water is very precious and we cannot allow its wastage. We have collected Rs 16 lakh in the form of penalty in the last one month for wasting water,” said Dikshit who has been appealing people to conserve water.
