Zee TV will hit the fast forward button on its primetime historical drama ‘Shobha Somnath Ki’. Viewers will see the show take a twenty year leap which will trace the completely transformed circumstances for Bharuch’s biggest royal family.
Viewers will now see a mature, grown up Shobha – The beautiful, valiant woman who rewrote history as she single-handedly took on the might of a vicious Mughal invader Mahmud of Ghazani. In the initial episodes post leap, Shobha, Chaula and Gayatri Devi will be seen to have relocated to a village and living a humble existence with assumed identities. Grinding chilli powder at the local cottage industry by the day, Shobha will work the nights away ardously to put together a spirited team called the Som Sena, with the sole agenda of safeguarding the independence of the Somnath Mandir.
Her tryst with the handsome prince and childhood friend Bheemdev under mysterious circumstances and their attempts to save Shobha’s cousin, Chaula from being trafficked to Ghazani and prevent the plundering of Somnath will make gripping viewing for the history buffs.
As if the interesting developments in its plot were not enough, starting November 12, the channel will move the show into a specially created weekend primetime slot of 7:30 PM every Saturday-Sunday, to follow the high-voltage drama that ensued in that era.
To ensure the transition of the show to 20 years down the line, the channel has roped in some very talented actors. Carrying on the legacy left behind by li’l Ashnoor Kaur who played the role of the young Shobha with aplomb is model-turned-actress Srishti Rode while Priyanka Chhabra will slip into the shoes of her sister Chaula. Female viewers can look forward to a ruggedly handsome Bheemdev in Jignesh Mehta who has already begun eating, living & breathing the plum role he’s just bagged. Actor Tarun Khanna is also stepping into the role of an older Dadda Chalukya.
