Chandigarh, May 25 : City based cultural organization of repute – Pracheen Kala Kendra – organized a special cultural programme this evening when students of eminent Kathak danseuse Dr. Samira Koser gave a spectacular performance giving amble proof of superb training being imparted at the Kendra. The programme held at Bhaskar Rao Indoor Auditorium in Sector 35 here. As many as 40 students ranging in age from 4 to 45 presented the intricate patterns of Jaipur gharana Kathak in inimitable style.
Samira Koser, a young exponent of Kathak dance, is a reputed teacher, choreographer and brilliant performer in her own right. Her method of imparting lessons in Kathak invites attention of dance lovers and this was amply proved during the cultural event.
The programme, which had total nine presentations, began with customary invocatory piece Vandana, the prayer to Goddess of learning Maa Saraswati and Lord Ganesha. All 40 students participated in the item. The second piece – Pure Kathak – was split into six groups and the students performed fundamental syllables of Kathak like aamad, thaat, paran, chakradar paran, gat, tode, tukre, kavits, footwork with quite ease and confidence.
The “Tarana” set to Raga Jog captivated the audience. Keeping the forthcoming rainy season in view, the programme concluded with a Thumri set to Raga Malhar “Ghir ghir aayi badariya kari kari” amidst thunderous applause.
The Padhant rendered by their mentor Samira Koser with the well known percussionist, Mehmood Khan providing ingenious Tabla support. Vinod Sood on Vocal and Rajinder on keyboard provided admirable support to the success of the programme.
