Pracheen Kala Kendra will organize its 175th Monthly Baithak Programme on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. when Kolkata-based young Sarod virtuoso Debanjan Bhattacharjee will mesmerize the city audience with his Sarod recital. The programme will be held at the Bhaskar Rao Indoor Auditorium of the Kendra in Sector 35-B here.
President’s Gold Medal winner in 2008, Debanjan Bhattacharjee is a young and most sought after Sarod player today. He was initiated to intricacies of Sarod playing at a tender age of 5 years under the guidance of late Ustad Dhyanesh Khan. After his sad demise and till date, he is under the tutelage of Ustad Aashish Khan and Vidushi Ameena Perera of Maihar Senia Gharana. His learning has also been enriched through his participation in various workshops conducted by the legendary Sarod Samrat late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. With the esoteric teachings from the great Gurus of this school of music in his repertoire, Debanjan is one of the torch bearers of the Maihar Senia Gharana.
He is quite adept in handling sur, tala and laya blending the traditional manner with the essence of his music school. Layakari is his forte. Besides performing throughout the length and breadth of the country, Debanjan has given many successful performances in abroad also including Singapore, Doha-Qatar, Bangladesh, Sweden, etc. He has also cut two music albums – Tradition Unfolds and Rising Stars.
