Chandigarh, February 20:- The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Gen. (Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues, PVSM VSM today inaugurated a solo exhibition of drawings and paintings by Bangalore based artist, Mr. Gavi Gangadhara at Museum and Art Gallery. Showcasing over 35 beautiful photographs covering the major facets of rural life, the unique exhibition gives a glimpse of rural reality unknown to the modern world, kind of moods and relationship of people, avenues of fun and play in households in village life and the hardships faced by the villagers to earn their livelihood.
Accompanied by Mrs. Jean Rodrigues, the Administrator went around the exhibits and showed keen interest in each and every art work. He appreciated the artistic endeavour and made an observation in the comments book suggesting the artist as follows; ‘This has been a fascinating experience. I, suggest, Gavi you consider holding some workshops to pass this tradition on. You record a life style that we are rapidly losing and a technique that needs to be perpetuated". He asked the artist to continue with his creative and talented endeavour and to work with commitment and dedication to achieve excellence. He emphasized that such like ventures must be promoted and expressed the hope that the artist will continue to join the stream of distinguished artists of the Country.
The artist, Mr. Gavi Gangadhara, while giving a brief of his vision & mission said that through his work on rural setting, he intends to get viewers to have a different perspective and present traditional art forms that are rooted in a particular culture, place, or history.
The exhibition will remain open to public view upto 25th February, 2009.
