Chandigarh, September 25, 2012: The Chandigarh Theatre Festival concluded with the staging of play ‘Yaar Banaa Buddy’ performed by Ekjute Theatre Group (Mumbai) here today. The play directed by Nadira Zaheer Babbar is a lighthearted look at four friends who find themselves at crossroads in their life and relationships. “Yaar banaa Buddy” is a light comedy that questions today’s urge to purge all signs of our culture and the roots to our past.
A thorough entertainment, the play is a take on the value of friendships. “A friend is a gift you give yourself”, “One who finds a friend, finds a treasure”.. we have all grown up swearing by these adages! After all isn’t friendship the most precious emotion of human relationship.
The play talks about how friends, family and urban support systems, each has a vital role in ensuring that one does not stray too far from our true selves as well as retain our sense of humor through it all.
As the characters argue, dream and fumble through their life and relationships, the play transports us back to our own growing years, college pranks and the people we once were! The play celebrates Indian-ness, friendships, forgiveness, values, and most of all, our ability to laugh!
