A three day workshop on Risk, Protection, and Resilience among Children at-Risk: Research and Action Plans organized by Department of Human Development and Family Relations, Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the International Society for the study of Behavioural Development was inaugurated in the august presence of dignitaries and the academicians and erudite.
Dr. Deepali Sharma, the workshop co-organizer introduced the dignitaries and delegates from overseas.In his welcome address, the Finance and Education Secretary, Chandigarh Administration , Shri V.K. Singh encouraged the endeavour of the Department to delve in the sphere of Child rights and children at risk, the deliberation of a workshop which he mentioned could be beneficial to the policy makers and the people in governance, and the recommendation which could prove to be contributing and useful to the community and the children in particular.
The President of ISSBD, Prof. Wolfgang Schneider appreciated the efforts of the Indian chapter of the ISSBD. Prof Pratibha Singhi, Chief of Pediatric Neurology and Neurodevelopment PGI in her address emphasised the clinical aspect which was supported by the economical angle brought in the overwhelming speech from Prof. A.K. Shiva Kumar, the development Economist and also Adviser to UNICEF for whom the cause of the children and their right is a priority in the recent times. Prof Shantha Sinha, Chiarperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in her inaugural address reiterated need for special attention to those at risk, focusing on the issues of the rights of the children. Dr. Suman Verma, Head of the Department and workshop organizer presented the workshop overview. The Principal of the College, Mrs. Madhu Nanda, presented a vote of thanks to the dignitaries and the delegates from Singapore, China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Philippines, United States and Germany, and from different parts of India.
