Chandigarh, May 6 : As many as 90 meritorious and successful students of Classical Music (Vocal & Instrumental), Classical Dances and Fine Arts (Painting) of Northern region comprising the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and UT Chandigarh were conferred upon diplomas of Bhaskar and Visharad final at the Pracheen Kala Kendra convocation held here today at Dr. M.S. Randhawa Auditorium of Punjab Kala Bhawan. The function was split into two parts – convocation and musical programme.
Chief Guest, Sh. Naresh Kaushal, Editor, Dainik Tribune, gave away diplomas to the students and eminent educationist Dr. Nivedita Singh, Professor, Department of Music, Punjabi University, Patiala delivered the keynote address.
The convocation began with a brief introduction of Pracheen Kala Kendra and its multifarious activities in the realm of classical arts followed by traditional lighting of the lamp and a welcome address by the Secretary of the organization Sh. Sajal Koser.
Sh. Naresh Kaushal in his address lauded the efforts of the Kendra in upholding the tradition of classical arts and imparting quality education and training to over 2.60 lakh students spread all over the country and abroad. Noted vocalist Dr. Nivedita singh delivered the keynote address and said that young learners of music should follow the path of hard work and dedication to attain perfection. She said the field of classical arts is vast and receiving a diploma is not an end but the beginning of a long journey. She urged the students to put the knowledge and skill acquired by them under guru-shishya parampara for the propagation and promotion of Indian art and culture. Smt. Shobha Koser, Registrar of the Kendra proposed the vote of thanks.
The convocation over, second part of the event – musical programme – started featuring performances of classical vocal and percussion music by meritorious candidates of Bhaskar.
The programme began with Vocal recital by the Bhaskar student from Amritsar Jaspreet Singh who stood first in Bhaskar examination. He presented compositions in vilambit and drut Khayal set to Raga Shudha Sarang. This was followed by Sitar recital by Manmeet Kaur from Patiala. Veer Preet Kaur and Manmohan Preet Singh gave a befitting finale to the Convocation with their Tabla Jugalbandi set to Teen Taal.
