Chandigarh : Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh Research Scholar, Ms. Nishtha Saxena has been awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarship. Ms Nishtha is the onlystudent of English Literature from Asia, who has been selected for the prominentcommonwealth scholarship this year.
During the Scholarship, Ms. Nishtha Saxena would be based at University of York underthe supervision of Professor David Attwell, an eminent Coetzee-Scholar and Chairpersonof the Department of English and Related Literature, University of York, UK.Ms. Nishtha Saxena is working on her doctoral project- “Relocating the spiritual in Cultural Studies: A Study of Mahatma Gandhi’s Concepts of Satyagarha, Swaraj, Swadeshiand Sarvodaya” under the supervision of Professor Aneel Raina at Department of English And Cultural Studies, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh.
During her scholarship Period, Nishtha would be required to write her project, deliverseminars, interact with the eminent writers and culture –critics in different leadinguniversities in UK and make presentations on civilization crisis and confusionprevailing in the contemporary discourses of Euro – Americo –Centric Cultural Studiesand how Gandhi’s value –Centric Praxis of Practical spirituality provides, the muchneeded alternative to cultural studies today.
