Y.S. RANA , CHANDIGARH—Five NSS volunteers of Chandigarh who returned from participating in 10-day pre-RD camp held at Sikar in Rajasthan met Bikram Rana, Stata Liaison Officer, NSS Cell, Chandigarh, here on Thursday. About 40 volunteers have attended the camp from this zone comprising seven states Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi. Pre-RD camps are being organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, at five zonal level across the country.
While talking to the programme officer, Neelam Rani has stated that over 200 NSS volunteers have participated in the camp and 160 best talented and outstanding NSS volunteers would be selected to participate in the Republic Day Parade on January 26 next. Of these two NSS volunteers would be selected from Chandigarh for RD Parade. The final selection was made by a National Level Selection Committee duly formulated by the Ministry and list of selected volunteers would be out in November next, she said.
She further said that the day in the camp began in early morning from 5.30 a.m and extended upto 10 p.m. It included morning assembly, sharmdaan, yoga, physical training, community activities, singining, cultural programmes, parade, lecturers, discussion, quiz etc. The camp is managed entirely by the students.
The participants said that participation in Republic Day parade was considered as matter of great pride for every volunteers. During the camp they have to go through a rigorous training of parade practice and a good experience where everyone has a chance to show talents and capability for perfect march past.
While displaying beauty of unity in diversity, the volunteers from various states displayed their unique cultures from their respective regions in cultural evenings throughout the camp, said Mr Rana. “It provides a platform to the NSS volunteers to show their mental and physical caliber,” said he.
