CHANDIGARH: 20 October 2011: Renowned Punjabi Sufi singer Satinder Sartaj visited 91.2 Jyotirgamaya, Panjab University’s community radio station at the School of Communication Studies for an exclusive interview which will be aired on 21st of
October at 11:30 am- 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
Sartaj was here to attend a press conference and visited SCS for the radio interview. Student RJs of School of Communication Studies, Varun Chadha and Neha Ralli conducted the interview. He shared his views on how he feels while performing for the audience
amongst whom he has lived for 10 years. “I have fond memories of this university and have learnt a lot from my friends and teachers here. Whatever I am today it’s because of this university and now performing amongst my own people will be like going down
the memory lane because the memories attached with this place are too precious for me”, he said.
While talking about his experience at the Kullu Dusshera Festival, which is a non Punjabi audience, he said, “recently I got back from an international concert and after that I performed in Delhi and then in Himachal Pradesh .There were almost 1500 people present there and the experience was overwhelming and the whole audience sang with me”, he said.
Satinder Sartaj was also a lecturer at Department of Music, Panjab University for six years. It was in college when he also started writing poetry and adopted his Takhallus poetic name Sartaj. Before rising to fame, Sartaj participated and won many musical events. He is a graduate in music with honors from Government College Hoshiarpur. When asked about the source of inspiration for his poems, he said nature had always inspired him “Even my songs are inspired by the beauty of nature.”
In his message to the budding artists, he said that it’s very important to be hardworking and dedicated towards their aspirations and take the name of Punjab University to extreme heights.
