CHANDIGARH: 04January 2012: Mr. Pratap Chandra Acharya, Senior Research Fellow, UGC- Research Fellowship in Science for Meritorious Students, pursuing his Ph.D under the supervision of Dr Ranju Bansal, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, bagged the best scientific paper awards at the recently held 63rd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress, Bengaluru (Bangalore) held between 16th-19th December 2011.
His paper was adjudged as the best paper in “Medicinal Chemistry” by a panel of reviewer, out of as many as 376 original research papers. His paper entitled as “Synthesis of 16E-[4-(2-carboxy) ethoxy benzylidene] androstene amides as potent antileukemic agents” was selected for the oral presentation on the inaugural day of the Conference, which is known as the biggest pharmaceutical conference of the country with more than 4000 invited delegates and scientists from more than 11 countries.
Mr. Acharya completed his master degree from the prestigious “Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi” and is pursuing his doctorate from “Panjab University” with RFSMS Fellowship from UGC. Presently, Mr. Acharya is doing his research to find new drug candidates from Steroid molecules. Surprisingly some of his synthesized molecules were found to be active for leukemia (blood cancer), which was the main theme of his presentation. This project was carried out in collaboration with National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, USA.
