Panjab University Vice Chancellor today increased the amount of scholarship f or poor students to Rs 10,000 per year. The university had earlier decided to grant a scholarship to students under two categories. The students whose parents earned an annual income of less than Rs. 1,50,000 were granted Rs 7,000 as a result of hunger strike by Sunny Mehta of the National Students Union of India (NSUI). The amount of scholarship has now been increased to Rs 10,000.
For students whose parents earn an annual income of less than Rs 2,00,000 but more than Rs 1,50,000, the scholarship has been increased from Rs 5000 to Rs 7500.
The hostel messes from the next session will be run on a cooperative basis and hotel management students will take care of the cleanliness of the food.
