By Anuj Bhalla,CHANDIGARH-March 13, 2012: The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, UniversityInstitute of emerging areas in Social Sciences, Panjab University Chandigarh organizeda special lecture for its students on the theme ‘Pursuit of Excellence in Life’ by arenowned academician and an internationally acclaimed psychologist, Dr. Jitendra Mohan, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Panjab University.
President of Asian Association of Applied Psychology “Dr. Mohan “illustrated that excellence is intangible and does not permit any shortcut to achieve it. On the contrary he advocated, pursuit of excellence is an ongoing exercise and demands long term commitment coinciding with one’s life span. He emphasized the role played by parents, teachers and educational institutions to bring out the hidden excellence trapped inside all of us.
According to Dr. Mohan the contribution that the Panjab University has made in shaping his career has to be acknowledged. He recommended the alphabet ‘C’approach for pursuing excellence whereby consciousness of, commitment to and clarity of purpose along with compassion towards fellow human beings were of prime significance. According to him, virtues of humility, gratitude and sharing were of no less significance as these are not to be treated only as lessons in morality but as away of life.
Earlier, Dr. Swarnjit Kaur, Coordinator Centre for Human Rights and Duties had initiated the proceedings by highlighting the relevance of innovative courses introduced in the University under emerging areas of study.
