Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) staged a protest today outside Vice Chancellor office for opening of two extra halls in library for students. INSO supporters leaded by President Mr. Anil Ghanghas were gathered outside the Vice chancellor’s office and rose slogans against the authority. INSO President Mr. Anil Ghanghas told that memorandums were given several times to Vice Chancellor and DSW in past six months to allow students to take their books in A. C. Joshi Library. Authorities had promised earlier to open two extra halls in the library upto 1st March, 2012 but March is over, and nothing is done. So, students are forced to stage a protest to make their voices heard. INSO President Mr. Ghanghas added that their is only one hall ie. outer section where students are allowed to take their own books. The outer section was started at the time of initiation of Library in 1958. Now, as university is adding 4-5 new courses in university every year and more than 18000 students study in the university so many students approach library for studies yet no more space had been added to library.
Now, as exams are starting in April and students seek library more often for studies but in vain, as no space is available in library due to very less seating capacity of exiting halls.
Mr. Sombir Singh Rana another INSO leader said that on the one hand university authorities promise to provide best education facilities and one the other hand a library which is first step towards this goal is completely neglected. This shows the ignoring attitude of university authorities toward the needs of the students and education facilities of the university.
University authorities are allowing to have pop and rock nights every other day but no concern is raised towards the real education needs.
All other prominent universities stress on better library facilities for students such as KU has an entirely different library for research scholars where as PU having more departments and students than KU in university campus has only one central library.
Later, DSW Dr. A. K. Ahulwalia and Librarian held a meeting with INSO warriors came to the decision that two extra halls each with a seating capacity of 250 students will be opened on 15 April, 2012. One examination hall which is on the right side of the library and another hall at ground floor of A. C. Joshi Library will be initiated from 15 April, 2012 for students. INSO President Mr. Ghanghas said that if these halls will not be opened in 15 April, 2012 than hunger strike will be called off.
