By Anuj Bhalla,CHANDIGARH- March 30, 2012: Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies, Panjab University celebrated its Annual Function as “Dayanand Jayanti” in English Auditorium, P.U. Campus here today. On this occasion Inter-University Vedic Hymns-recitation and essay writing competition on Vedic Philosophy were also organized. Professor Virendra Kumar Alankar, Chairperson of the Chair informed that this Chair contributed a lot to Vedic Literature. He also informed that special lectures would be organized on the importance of Vedas from the next session. In the role of Rigveda, Dayanand Saraswati gave directions on different subjects of Vedas. Lectures and Essay Competitions on the role of Rigveda’s each chapter by well-know intellectuals would also be organized in future.
Dr. Rajinder Vidyalankar from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Elaborating on the Vedic contribution of Dayanand Saraswati,Dr. Vidyalankar told that Religion is that which gives peace and amenities to all.There is no place for enmity and violence in the religion. Professor Arvind Kumar from Kurukshetra University said that the key of Vedarth is with Dayanand Saraswati. Professor Virendra Kumar Alankar, Chairperson of the Chair said that for the knowledge of Vedas, the whole world would have to look towards Punjab. Panjab University from its origin has given important contribution to Vedic Studies.
Dayanand Vedic Peeth ofPanjab University is known as a famous Vedic Peeth in India. Professor Vikram Kumar,Professor Shankarji Jha, Dr. Vashundra Rehani, Dr. Lakhbir Singh and other local scholars were also present on this occasion. Mr. Udhayam Aryan, student of Sanskrit Department performed stage anchoring of the function. Research Scholars –Lalita, Shilpa Pandey and Rajesh participated actively in this programme. Ved Parkash, Chaman Lal, students of the Chair assisted in making this prorgamme a grand success.
The results of various competitions organized on this occasion are as under:- Vipin Niwani, Geeta, Pratibha and Deepak Sharma got first, second, thirdand consolation prizes respectively in Mantra Recital Competition. Amit Sharma, Pratibha, Amrita Devi and Geeta got first, second, third andconsolation prizes respectively in Essay Writing Competitions on Veda. Dr. Vashundra Rehani and Dr. Naresh Batra from Ambala were the judges of the competitions, the Chairman, Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies.
