The campus of Panjab University, Chandigarh bustled with high voltage energy and emotions as the three well-renowned Engineering Technology Institutes Of North India, namely, University Institute Of Engineering and Technology (UIET Chandigarh), University Institute Of Engineering and Technology Hoshiarpur (UIET Hoshiarpur) and University Institute Of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET Chandigarh) held their 2nd Convocation together in Panjab University, Chandigarh on Friday, 18th April 2014 with the vision to frame the future of the students of their respective institutes.
The ceremony started on a positive note with the PU’s official prayer “Tamso Maa Jyotirgamaya, PU Vishwa Vidyalaya, Shaan aur Shakti Sada rahe.” This Degree Award Ceremony became more sensational as Mr. Manoj Chugh, Global Head, Business Development, Mahindra Satyam was the Chief Guest of this auspicious occasion along with the Guest of Honour Mr. Ashwani Sharma, Executive Director, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
Mr. Manoj Chugh, is a proud alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and has vast experience having worked for companies like Wipro and Cisco while Mr. Ashwani Sharma is well-experienced as an Executive Director of the Refineries division of Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
The Vice Chancellor of PU, on this occasion, said “I am feeling really happy for this second prize distribution ceremony of the three institutes. Years have passed very quickly. This year, the competition was high. If we don’t make our way it becomes difficult for us to move forward. I wish the students a very great success in their lives. Hope they touch great heights”
In his speech Mr. Manoj Chugh gave humourous and motivating examples on how the world is changing rapidly now a days. He conveyed to the students that “It is extremely interesting to see how things are changing in modern world. I suggest all of you to think out of the box. You have opportunity to change the world. Congratulations for everyone in making it till here” while before that Mr. Ashwani Sharma gave the adrenaline pump to the students with his speech. He said “Today we are here to acknowledge the success of the students. I am feeling nostalgic as I was here, at this position 38 years ago, as I was in UICET. Students all over the world wait for this day of graduation. PU has touched great heights till today. I wish students all the best and kudos to them for taking PU to great heights”
The Convocation ceremony amplified the confidence of the students and they got the sense of accomplishment as their four years with books finally paid-off. This awarding ceremony even presented the first five finest students of each year with vitalizing certificates. Students, sitting together for four years, compete with each other for the highest CGPA. The Institute of UIET Chandigarh had Vatika Joshi, a student of EEE branch with highest CGPA of 9.69 in 3rd Semester.
A total of 352 students from UIET Chandigarh itselfattended the convocation out of which 70 were meritorious students. While the total students from UICET and UIET Hoshiarpur were 160 and 153 respectively. In UIET Hoshiarpur 51 were meritorious students. In all these three institutes, totally 595 students of PU got their degree from the hands of Chief Guest and Guest Of Honour.
A large gathering which comprised of graduating students, guests from various industries as well the directors of UIET, UICET and UIET Hoshiarpur attended this grand ceremony. More than 600 students attended and were awarded according to their grade-points.The event ended on a high-note with the students over-whelmed by receiving awards from such great Industrialists.
