Chandigarh February 12 : Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh would organize 6th Chandigarh Social Science Congress (CHASSCONG 2016) on February 25 and 26, 2016 at the University.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover informed that the “Social Sciences in Contemporary Era” would be the theme of the two day prestigious Congress. Former Vice Chancellor at University of Allahabad and currently Visiting Professor at South Asian University Prof Rajen Harshe would deliver the key note address at the inaugural function and noted Writer, historian and former Vice Chancellor of the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Prof J.S. Grewal would preside over the inaugural function. Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Prof. Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury would deliver the valedictory address on February 26.
PU Fellow and Nodal Coordinator Prof Anil Monga informed that Essay Writing Competition, Poster Making Competition and Quiz Competition would also be centrally organized in the CHASSCONG. In the Sixth CHASSCONG, there will be four technical sessions apart from Inaugural and Valedictory Sessions, he added.
The sub themes of the Congress would be ‘Relevance of Social Sciences in the Contemporary Era’, ‘Social Sciences Pedagogy: Innovation and Enrichment’, ‘Sciences and Social Sciences: Emerging Complementarity’, ‘Interdisciplinary Approaches in Social Sciences’, ‘Making Social Science Research More Relevant’ and ‘Social Sciences in Historical Perspective’. The response of Social Sciences to Societal Issues and Problems like Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Environment, Disaster Management, Food Security, Social Exclusion, Conflict, Peace and Security, Agrarian Crisis, Human Rights Concerns, Gender Issues, Good Governance, Crime and Law & Order and ‘Media: Print and Electronic’ would also be deliberated.
The Quiz Competition, essay competition and Poster Making Competition are open to all the students. There is no restriction on the number of teams participating from each Department/Institute/Centre or University. The teams/participants should register in their respective Departments/Institutes/Centres/Universities or with the office of the Nodal Coordinator by 15th February, 2016 till 4.30 pm. The Theme of the Poster Making Competition is “Climate Change and Environment”.
The interested participants in the Congress must get themselves registered by 15th February 2016 upto 4:30 pm. in the concerned Department/Institute/Centre. Participants from affiliated colleges and other institutions may get themselves registered with the Nodal Centre also after getting their registration forms recommended by their Head of the Institution.
The CHASSCONG is a collaborative effort of all the Social Science Departments of PU, its affiliated Colleges and CRIKC Institutions. The Congress provides a platform to all the social scientists particularly young social scientists to deliberate on contemporary issues with an aim to enhance the quality of teaching and research in social sciences.
