Dev Samaj College of Education today celebrated the International Literacy Day. Dr. Ashwini Koul, Director and Programme Co-ordinator NSS PU, Chandigarh; Professor and Chairperson at Department of Biophysics was the Chief Guest.
The children of the “School on the move” a unique project initiated by the college presented a prayer song- “Door Agyan Ke Ho Andhare” to mark the day. This project is first in its kind in North India with the objective – Educating the underprivileged children of migrant labourers of the city.
On this occasion, NSS Volunteers recited theme based poems, sang NSS Lakshay Geet, performed Giddha and skit – “Padho Padhao Desh Ko Aage Bhadao”. The Chief Guest in his address stressed on the importance of literacy and motivated the students towards social service. He believes in imparting basic education by making the person understand and realize his/her rights and duties. He appreciated the efforts of the Principal, NSS Programme officers and volunteers.
The Principal and the Chief Guest distributed to the underprivileged children school bags, books, stationary and bottles.Shri Nirmal Singh, Chairman of the college applauded the NSS unit for their meritorious service during the previous year and inspired the new comers to rise to active volunteership.
