Patiala : The Centre for Consumer Protection Law and Advocacy (CCPLA) of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab in association Centre for Consumer Studies, Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi is organising a National Seminar on Consumer Activism, Competition and Consumer Protection and the support of Ministry of Consumer Affairs on the 7th and 8th April, 2012.
In the wake of modernization and globalization the world has become a global market where consumerism plays a dominant role. “Consumer Activism” is the urge of consumerism at this hour. There is a complex system of cross border rules and laws in place which attempt to regulate the affairs of the global economy. Moreover, the aggressive globalization and liberalization has led to greater concerns about consumer protection. The primary objective of the seminar is to address these concerns within the theme of the seminar “Consumer Activism, Competition and Consumer Protection”.
The Seminar has also been divided into several other themes to gain an in depth perception of the issues that have arisen due to consumerism. The themes are Consumer Activism, Consumerism and Effect of Globalization, Competition Law and Consumerism, Intellectual Property Rights, Technology and Consumer Protection, Challenges Before Redressal Mechanisms and Regulatory Issues in Consumer Protection.
Individuals from various fields, such as scholars, researchers, bar & bench, academicians and students were invited to submit papers. The response to the Seminar has been overwhelming to say the least. As many as 200 papers were submitted out of which 90 papers have been selected to be published in the Seminar Volume. Original and well researched papers were selected by the Committee are to present their papers at the seminar.
The seminar will be inaugurated on 7th of April at 11:30 a.m at the New Campus of RGNUL at Sidhuwal by His Excellency, Shri Shivraj V. Patil, the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh who has consented to be the Chief Guest of the Seminar. Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.S. Mongia Former Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court and Former President Punjab State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Punjab shall preside over the function. Hon’ble Mr. Justice H.S.Brar, former Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court and former President, Punjab State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Punjab and Professor (Dr.) Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala shall be the Guest of Honour. The keynote address shall be given by Professor (Dr.) Suresh Mishra IIPA, New Delhi.
