Bhopal : Jabalpur Engineering College, G.S. Institute of Technology & Science Indore and Government Autonomous College Shahdol are proposed to be upgraded to universities under Rashtriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). Every college will get Rs. 55 crore for this. Bhopal will have State Academic Staff College for faculty improvement. Proposal of a cluster university has also been sent. For this, Rs. 55 crore will be provided. Besides, training colleges will be opened at 5 other places. These proposals were approved at a meeting of RUSA council chaired by Higher Education Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta here today.
Shri Gupta has said autonomous colleges have been upgraded to universities at all divisional headquarters which do not have a university. He directed to prepare a proposal of upgradation of medical, music and agriculture colleges. Shri Gupta said that every university must have a training centre. He directed to undertake a study of less Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) colleges at Umaria, Khargone, Katni, Dindori and Singrauli and launch a special campaign to increase GER.
Prepare DPR soon
Shri Gupta directed to prepare DPR of proposed works at the earliest. The meeting also discussed establishment of Central Research University.
Infrastructure grant to universities
The universities will also get Rs. 20 crore per annum for library, labs, equipments, hostel etc. Rs. 12 crore will be given for developing model college. Similarly, Rs. 112 crore 80 lakh will be given to 56 new and 20 other colleges for infrastructure development. Colleges at Sheopur, Timarni, Shahpura, PG College Jhabua and Veer Singh Poly College will be developed as model colleges. A proposal has also been chalked out to upgrade colleges at Dhamnod, Parasia, Amla, Mandleshwar, Barwani Girls College, Petlawad, Depalpur and Rajgarh. Professional colleges will be opened at Dhar, Katni and Rajgarh. A sum of Rs. 26 crore has been sanctioned for every college. For research and innovation, 9 universities and 9 colleges have been selected for which universities will get Rs. 100 lakh each and colleges Rs. 50 lakh each. A proposal has been chalked out for sanctioning Rs. 55 crore for research in technical education.
Similarly, financial assistance will be given for equity, initiative, faculty recruitment support, faculty improvement and vocational training under RUSA. State will get Rs. 15 crore for vocational training.
