Prof. Dr. R.C. Sobti, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh today inaugurated an International Conference on “Marketing: Emerging Issues, Challenges and Strategies” at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Gharuan.
Prof Sobti was awarded with Award of Excellence in Higher Education for the year 2011-12 by the Punjab Commerce & Management Association on this occasion for his contribution in the management of educational institutions.
The conference was jointly organized by Punjab Commerce & Management Association (PCMA) and Chandigarh Business School (CBS), Gharuan.
Prof Sobti said “At present there are only 800 Universities, but as per findings of Knowledge Commission India requires 1500 Universities and 1 lakh colleges to cater to the increasing demand of students pursuing higher education.” He also emphasized that collaboration between private and government educational institutions was necessary for the judicious/optimum utilization of academic resources.
There were 110 delegates from various institutions of the region who presented their research work at the conference. The conference saw participation from premiere institutes like: UBS, Panjab University, Birla Institute of Technology, UIAMS, Guru Nanak Dev University, Punjabi University, Thapar University, Kurukshetra University, MIMT, Greater Noida, etc.
In his Keynote address, Dr. Pushpinder Gill, Head, School of Management Sciences, Punjabi University said “Present marketing practices are not undergoing change at the pace at which society and its needs are changing, because those organizations which fail to transform at required pace would perish.
The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Prem Kumar, an eminent management academician and consultant and Emeritus President Punjab Commerce & Management Association.
Satnam Singh Sandhu Chairman, CGC promised to put all needed resources to organize such like vital conferences which is the need of hour in case India wants to be a developed nation by 2020.
Mr. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC expressed his gratitude to all the participants of the Conference and said such conferences would be held continuously in the future to give a platform to the budding research scholars and teaching fraternity.
Dr. Karminder Ghuman, Director, CBS Gharuan in his welcome address highlighted the vitality of real life research that can lead to registered patents in case the faculty members in the domain of professional education aspire to be world class teachers.
