As the nation gears up to commemorate its 68th Independence Day, we at Stepping Stones Sr. Sec. School decided to celebrate ‘freedom’ in its true spirit. The Independence Day is a memorial to honor and remember our nation’s freedom struggle and try to achieve freedom from corruption, poverty, incapability, social stigmas etc.
Aligning activities with these thoughts, children came all out with poetry, skits, role-plays to create a time line for the Indian saga of Independence. It was invigorating to see ideas flow freely from young minds.
The most cherished activity was perhaps the ‘Wall Painting Session’ wherein the boundary walls of the school came vibrant with color. Freedom of expression was the motto behind this activity, which saw the entire school’s students and teachers alike applying deft strokes on pristine walls.
On a more serious note, students were motivated to free themselves from various social stigmas prevailing in our society. To validate, an awareness campaign was held in the school premises with talks and presentation on leprosy, while members of the LTS Club visited the ‘Kushth Aashram’ at 3BRD Road to bring about some moments of happiness into the bleak lives of the inmates.
Cultural presentations and interaction with officials and inmates left the children pensive, silently promising themselves to spread awareness and empathy for such people.
Last but not the least the weeklong celebration culminated with the hoisting of the National Flag on the 15th and a plethora of fulfilled presentations. Our school administrator, Capt. Sanjiv Kumar, addressed the students motivating them to have reverence for their motherland and to be responsible citizens who would cherish ‘Freedom’.
