Delhi police20 Sep :Twenty-two new police stations will start operating in the national capital from Monday in order to ensure better policing of the city which has a significant floating population and is high on the terror radar.

The government had on 1st September announced the setting up of 29 new police stations, out of which seven have already started functioning even before getting official sanction.Station House Officers have already been posted in these police stations.

Work is on to transfer cases and other paperwork related to the division and creation of the new police stations, the official said, adding “a lot of preparatory work has been done.”With the new additions, the total number of territorial police stations in the city has increased to 155.

“This will help in better policing and better service to the people. There will be more beats which will help in reducing response time besides optimising the police-public ratio. This will help in better handling of cases,” he said.

Besides the 155 territorial police stations, the city police has another 14 exclusive police stations for wings like Crime Branch, Economic Offences Wing, Delhi Metro, Special Cell, Crime Against Women Cell, Narcotics and Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Delhi Police has, for long, been pressing for increasing its strength to ensure better policing and security in the capital, which ranks high among the terror targets in the country.
