Peren : In proof of their ever determined commitment of caring for the common populace and living up to their motto of “Friends of the Hill People”, troops of the 18 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 6 Sector AR, rescued three civilians and helped to recover the dead body of a woman 4 km from Pedi Village. The civilians were trapped inside a Bolero vehicle which fell down a deep gorge, while it was travelling from Pedi to Peren. The team of Assam Rifle sprung into action immediately on receiving the news provided by a victim of the accident, despite heavy fog and slight drizzle.
A team of 18 Assam Rifle alongwith Police launched a rescue operation and were able to rescue three victims and recovered the body of the deceased woman. Out of four passengers, three (one male & two females) were injured and one died on the spot. The injured victims were evacuated from the spot and after necessary first aid were sent to their respective homes. Mr Albert who suffered serious injuries is being treated at the Medical Hospital in Dimapur. The body of Mrs Rukhovima, was pulled out of the crushed vehicle and was taken by the Police and relatives to Peren Town. The lives of the injured victims would have been in grave danger, if they had not received help from Assam Rifles on time. This timely action by Assam Rifles was highly appreciated and applauded by the locals as well as the civil administration of Peren Dist.
