Amit Sharma , Jammu : A Veterans’ Rally was organised by the Rashtriya Rifles Sector under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) at surankote today, for the veterans (Ex-Servicemen) and Veer Naris residing in the area of responsibility, to alleviate the problem being faced by them and provide all necessary assitasnce to resolve them.
The Commander Rashtriya Rifles Sector inaugurated the rally and interacted with the veterans, and assured them all possible assistance from the Army. Approx 270 veterans and 40 veer naris attended the event. Information kiosks were established by various departments of the state government, to assist the veterans in gaining information on their resettlement including the civilian setup. These included help desks on banking services, loan for higher education, small scale enterprises, crop diversification, cultivation of high yielding special varieties of crops/vegetables, mushroom cultivation and fish farming. While speaking on the occasion the Sector Commander assured the veterans that the Army would earnestly work to alleviate their genuine problems. He also dwelled upon the important role that the veterans continue to play towards maintaining peace and tranquillity in the region.
Maj (Retd) Prem Singh, Officer-In-Charge of Zila Sainik Welfare Board, Poonch apprised the veterans about welfare schemes introduced by the Central and State Government, and various welfare activities being undertaken by the Zilla Sainik Welfare Board. He also assured them that all necessary assistance would be provided to mitigate the difficulties and problems faced by the veterans and veer naris.
The veterans and veer naris appreciated the efforts of the Army to reach out to them in remote areas. Sub (Retd) Anwar Hussain while speaking to the media said that conduct of rally by the Army provided an opportunity to them to interact with senior officers of the Army, civil administration and representatives from various organisations in an effort to project their issues and act as a window to address their genuine concerns.Mr SA Hussain, Additional Deputy DC, Poonch also present for the event.
