Chandigarh: August 01, 2008 : Keeping up with its traditions of promoting adventure sports activities in the country and giving a message of peace and harmony to the youth of the nation, Pine Division Cycling and Trekking Expedition 2008 was flagged off by the Brigade Commander from the Chandimandir Military Station today. Officers, JCOs (Junior Commissioned Officers) and jawans residing in the station attended the impressive ceremony.
Led by Lt VK Upadhyay, the cycle expedition comprises one JCO and 10 Other Ranks. During its course of 15 days, the expedition will cover areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and will follow the route from Chandimandir to Patiala, Malerkolta, Ludhiana, Moga, Ferozpur, Zira, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Nainadevi. The expedition will be traversing over 600 kilometers on cycles and trekking 30 kilometers in hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh.
The aim of this expedition is promoting the spirit of adventure among the young soldiers and motivating youth to take up adventure activities. It also encompasses spreading message of peace, harmony and spirit of oneness among all cross sections of the society. The expedition would also focus on motivating the youth to join army, as the expedition is touching the various recruitment zones. Another objective of the expedition is to elevate the spirit of ex- servicemen of these areas.
