29 Aug : Uttarakhand government has formed a new sub-district in Haldwani in Nainital district to facilitate administrative work.
The formation of the sub-district will help people deposit their taxes and buy and sell their lands easily, official sources said.
Finance Secretary Radha Raturi has issued a direction in this regard, they said.

‘Land scams’ rock Uttarakhand

27 June :Leaders of both ruling BJP and opposition Congress in Uttarakhand are now battling ‘land scam’ allegations, CM Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank has come under fire from the Opposition for changing the land use of a biochemical factory at Rishikesh.
Leader of Opposition H S Rawat and PCC chief Yashpal Arya alleged that it was done to provide benefits to some BJP leaders.

IAF choppers try to rescue tourists stranded in Rudraprayag

10 June :  Two IAF helicopters were on Thursday pressed into service to rescue nine persons including a senior West Bengal government official stranded due a blizzard at a tourist spot in Rudraprayag as inclement weather hampered the operation for the second consecutive day.
The Indian Air Force helicopters made several attempts but due to the blizzard and poor visibility, they failed to land at Mayali top, about 250 km from here, said Ravinath Raman, District Magistrate of Rudraprayag.

Religious Chardham yatra begins in Uttarakhand

16 May : The annual religious “Chardham yatra” began on Sunday with opening of portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, nestled in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.
Amid chanting of hymns and shlokas, doors of the two temples were opened, after six months, coinciding with the auspicious day of “Akshya Tritiya”.
Scores of pilgrims offered prayer at the two temples on the first day of the yatra season on Sunday, officials said.

1500 police constables to be recruited: Uttarak’d CM

4 Apr : Stating that Uttarakhand is “very sensitive from security point of view”, CM Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank has said an additional 1500 constables would be recruited to strengthen the state police force.
“Uttarakhand is very sensitive from security point of view as it shares international borders with two countries China and Nepal. So the government has decided to strengthen the police force by adding 1500 more constables,” he said at a function in Police Lines in Dehra Dun on Sunday.
