Beautified Marina beach thrown open to public by CM

20 Dec :Walking along the famous Marina beach will never be the same again for locals and tourists, with viewing galleries, landscaping and fountains, created as part of a beautification project, being thrown open to the public by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Chennai on Sunday.

The entire 3.10 km stretch from Labour statue to the Light House now sports a new look, with 14 galleries, a four metre internal walkway along the sands and fountains.

4 July ; Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) at Sriperumpudur near Chennai turned a ‘mini young India’ during a 12 day long NSS mega Summer Camp that concluded on 2nd July, 2009. For Wanterki, a 19-year-old student from Shillong, it was his life’s first travel beyond his home.
He, along with selected National Service Scheme volunteers from Meghalaya, traveled more than 2600 kilometers to Sriperumpudur in Tamil Nadu to be amidst 400 other young brigades at the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD).

29 Mar :The Congress and DMK last night clinched a seat-sharing deal for the Lok Sabha polls under which the former will contest 16 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.  Announcing the accord signed by him and TNCC president K V Thangabalu in the presence of AICC general secretary Gulam Nabi Azad, DMK chief M Karunanidhi told reporters that his party would contest 21 Lok Sabha seats, leaving two to Viduthalai Chiruthagal Katchi (VCK) and one to IUML.
