23 Feb : The DMRC on Monday unveiled the country’s first standard gauge train depot that boasts of various facilities like state-of-the-art automatic train washing plant.
The depot, having a capacity to stable 90 coaches, will cater to inspection, maintenance, washing and administrative functioning of the Inderlok-Mundka line, to be thrown open to public next month.
“Area wise, it is the smallest metro depot, spreading across 10.83 hectares. But it has various facilities like workshop, inspection shed, stabling sheds and automatic train washing plant,” Kumar Kesav, Director, Projects, said.

8 Jan : Fulfilling a budget promise, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has introduced a Rs 66 lakh mobile ticketing van scheme for railway passengers in Kolkata and New Delhi.
“Such mobile ticketing service vans will enable railway passengers to purchase tickets from their localities instead of having to take the trouble of going to reservation centres. This will free them from harassment by touts,” Banerjee said at the launch of the ‘Muskil Asan’ scheme in Kolkata.

6 Nov : Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and Asstt. Sub-Inspector of Railway Protection Force (RPF) have now been authorized to take action against person found smoking in trains and at railway stations. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as per its notification of dated 15.9.2009, has included the Travelling Ticket Examiner/Chief Ticket Inspector/Ticket Collector/Officer not below the rank of Ticket Collector or equivalent rank not below the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Railway Protection Force in Railways as person authorized to take action against smoking at public place.

21 Sep : Union Home minister P Chidambaram flagged off the second non-stop Duronto express train between Chennai and New Delhi from Chennai on Monday morning.
This Duranto Train will have operational halt at Vijaywada, Warangal, Nagpur, Itarsi and Jhansi on both the directions.
Country’s first Duronto express between Sealdah and New Delhi was flagged off by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Sealdah station in Kolkata on 18th September.
