31 Dec : Noted Gandhian worker Natwar Thakkar has been conferred “Lifetime Service to Naga people award” by the villagers where he started his work in the fifties as a Sarvodaya worker.
Chuchuyimlang Senso Mongdang (people’s union) gave the award to octogenerian Thakkar, founder of Nagaland Gandhi Ashram, at a function on Tuesday at Chuchuyimlang village near Mokokchung.
The award carrying Rs 1 lakh was given in recognition of his service to the people of Nagaland and Chuchuyimlang and surrounding villages for more than five decades, Senso Mongdang president Supongmatong said.

15 Nov : The Centre has said no permit has been issued to Assam for “domestication of wild elephants for government duties”, even as the state has asked for lifting of the ban on trapping marauding wild tuskers to contain the man-animal conflict there.
“The Wildlife Act permits only capture of wild elephant in case it threatens human life. No such permission has been given to Assam in recent times,” A N Prasad, Director, Project Elephant (PE) said.

26 Oct :The banned ULFA has said it was ready for negotiation with Centre but would not give up arms.
“We want a political solution and are ready to hold discussions but not by surrendering arms. If the Centre can hold discussions with the Naga outfits, then why not with us,” ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa said in a statement e-mailed to the media in Guwahati on Sunday night.
