6 mar : Rahul Mahajan’s hunt for a perfect bride on TV is over as the reality show star picked up Bengali girl Dimpy Ganguly to tie the knot in true Bollywood style.

Mahajan, who has had a troubled past with drug abuse charges and an acrimonious marriage and divorce from childhood friend Shweta Singh, hopes that it is a “happily ever after” for him.

Buddhadeb announces reservation for Muslims

8 Feb : On a day when the Andhra Pradesh High Court struck down job reservation for Muslims, the West Bengal govt has announced 10 pc quota in employment for the community under the OBC category.
The state government declared the quota for the Muslims who were educationally, socially and economically backward in the state.
“We have decided to accept the recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission and will take steps to implement it,” Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee told newsmen at the state secretariat on Monday without waiting for the Centre’s decision …

Basu’s last rites on Tuesday

18 Jan : Jyoti Basu’s last rites to be performed on Tuesday. West Bengal government declares  2 days state mourning in Jyoti Basu’s memory.
Jyoti Basu’s body will be taken from the funeral parlour ‘Peace Haven’ at 9.30 AM on Tuesday and will be kept at the state Assembly premises for four hours (10.30 AM to 2.30 PM) to enable the people to pay their last respects.

Centre gives Rs 300 crore to WB for tiger conservation

5 Nov : The Centre has released over Rs 300 crore to West Bengal for conservation of tigers in Sunderban and Buxa sanctuaries of the state.
The fund was released soon after the West Bengal Government signed the tripartite pact in mid-October with the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) on behalf of the Centre and directors of the two tiger reserves.
A senior NTCA official said that around Rs 260 crores and Rs 38.58 crores were provided to Sunderban and Buxa sanctuaries respectively to make the parks free from human interference and …
