28 Aug : Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia on Saturday expressed anguish over pathetic working conditions in trial courts in the country, saying even judges enjoy the rights enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution.
“For the last 20 years, I have been seeing the pathetic condition in which most the states’ district judges are working. There is no house, no rooms, no proper place to work. I have myself seen those courts,” he said.

None should be allowed to enforce self-made laws: NHRC chief

26 June : Amid growing instances of honour killings and demands by khap panchayats to amend the Hindu Marriage Act for banning same sub-caste marriage, NHRC chief K G Balakrishnan said none should be allowed to enforce “self-created” laws.
“Contrary to the general moral view of the society, nobody shall be allowed to enforce their own self-created law to achieve their narrow-minded societal values,” he said.
Justice Balakrishnan was addressing a training programme on the ‘Rule of Law’ organised by Vishwa Yuvak Kendra in New Delhi.

1 July : The trial against senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar for his role in November 1984 Sikh genocide will begin on July 1, 2010. The trial will be held on day-to-day basis.
