“Launch of Digitized Doctoral Theses of PU on Shodhganga Repository and user awareness programme on Shodhganga” was organized by the AC Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Proquest India, a well known electronic database service provider. Chief Guest of the event was Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University; Chandigarh, Dr. Jagdish Arora, Director, INFLIBNET, Prof. O.P Katare, Director, Research Promotion Cell, PU, Chandigarh. Dr. Raj Kumar, University Librarian welcome all the dignitaries and participants who attended this event. More than 200 library professionals from the region and research scholars of PU participated in this event. Prof. A K Grover launched the PUC digitized theses on Shodhganga repository. He highlighted the contribution of Prof. Yashpal in the setting up of Inter University Centers and especially INFLIBNET center. He also emphasized the role of INFLIBNET center in higher education and highlighted the importance of Shodhgnaga in terms of providing access to scholarly content. Dr. Jagdish Arora in his talk discussed about the Shodhganga Project and various advantages of uploading ETD on Shodhganga repository. Prof. O P Katare is his address said that uploading PhD theses in Shodhganga repository was the dream project of the University and with this research scholar will get access of Scholarly content of PU from all over the world. Mr. Prathap Das , Regional Manager , Proquest has given brief introduction about the PU digitisation project and Proquest DAAP programme. At the end Mr. Manoj Kumar K, Scientist D, deliver lecture on Shodhganga and Use of URKUND in detecting plagiarism.
Chandigarh: University Institute of Fashion Technology (UIFT), Panjab University today hosted the final jury for selection of costumes and designs for its Annual Design Collection- ‘Shears & Ruban’. 17 design collections and lifestyle products were ideated and created by students of masters degree (fashion and lifestyle management) after months of toil and research. The inspirations are as diverse as plus-size designer range to nomad and hippy inspired designs to denim recreations. Students have come up with enormously creative home-range products including designer mirrors, colourful eco-friendly designer furniture items and hand knotted room-dividers. Gurpreet Boparai, Director, No-Exit Clothing Private Limited was the external jury today who awarded the collections and products to be displayed on ramp and also gave suggestions and improvements. “Shears & Ruban is the annual event of UIFT where bachelors and masters students of the department are at their creative best and the creation, choreography and modeling for the show is arranged in-house. The students have come up inimitable designs this year,” said Dr. Prabhdip Brar, Design collection coordinator and faculty member UIFT. The department faculty and coordinator Dr. Swarnjit were also present at the jury. The annual design collection this year is slated for April 8 at 6pm.
Chandigarh : Chitkara University, Punjab, conferred an “Excellence Award in Academics, Research and Innovation” on Professor Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, for his stellar contribution in pharmaceutical education, research and scientific innovation. The award was bestowed upon Professor Bhoop on 26th February during the Inaugural Function of two-day Symposium on Pharma Innovation at Chitkara University Campus, Banur.
On this occasion, Professor Bhoop also enthused the audience by delivering the Inaugural Keynote Address on the topic, “From Conceptuation to Commercialization using Pharma Innovation“. The Award included a plaque, a robe of honour and a cash prize.
Globally renowned for his research work on QbD-enabled development of drug delivery systems, Professor Bhoop has to his credit 252 publications in peer-reviewed journals with H-index of 29 along, 12 books and 48 book chapters. He has handled 15 research projects and guided/guiding 24 Ph.D.’s, three post-doctorates and 53 M.Pharm scholars. He has duly trained over a thousand of industrial scientists under his guidance through deliberations at various onsite industrial training seminars, workshops, conferences and scientific forums. He has also been instrumental in filing 4 patents and tech. transfers of two nanostructured drug delivery technologies to the industry.
Besides being the Chairman of UIPS, Professor Bhoop has also been serving as the Founder Coordinator of Interdisciplinary UGC Centre for Excellence in Nano Biomedical Applications. He has also served as the Dean Alumni Relations (2007-2011), Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2011-13) and has been serving as the University Fellow (2012-16), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh : The Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today organized its Inter-University Declamation Contest-cum-Annual Function with various Sanskrit competitions and Lectures on the theme “Sanskrit in contemporary era”. The function was presided over by renowned Sanskrit Scholar Prof. Ramakant Angirasa and Prof. Vikram Kumar was the Chief Guest. The valedictory function on the retirement of Prof. Vikram Kumar was also organized.
Chairperson, Sanskrit Department Prof. Shankarji Jha proposed the vote of thanks. Scholars present on the occasion and taking part in deliberations included Prof. V.K. Dr Sonia Kapoor, Assistant Professor, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, has recently been conferred with one of the most prestigious Young Scientist Award for the year 2015-16 by Indian Science Congress Association in the Section of New Biology (including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology). The prestigious National award included a certificate of merit along with the cash prize of Rs. 25,000.
The award was bestowed on Dr Sonia for her research work entitled “identifying the causes for limited neurotoxicity of a chemotherapeutic molecule” presented during the 103rd Annual Meeting of Indian Science Congress Association, held at University of Mysore, Mysuru, during January 3-7, 2016.
Dr Sonia has completed her graduation in Biotechnology from UIET, Panjab University, and obtaining her Post-graduation and PhD from IIT, Kharagpur and IIT, Mumbai, respectively. Besides this award, she has 11 publications in international peer reviewed journals of high repute, 4 book chapters, and 1 book by international publisher as an Associate Editor and several other awards to her credit. Dr Sonia has also presented her research works previously at several international platforms as well.
“Veer Bharat” today celebrated National Youth Day, in honour of 153rd birth anniversary of Shri Vivekanand Ji, at Student Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh. On this occasion, students offered a floral tribute in front of portrait of the National icon and pledged to follow his vision. His belief in the role of youth in Nation building was very well taken by all. “Veer Bharat” thanked all the students for making this event a great success.
