The World Bank has approved the Project Preparation Facility Advance for the e-Bharat Project in support of the National e-Governance Plan. This Project is expected to finance a part of the NeGP activities, for which Government of India has been carrying on a dialogue with World Bank. The Bank has indicated that it would be willing to consider a loan of 300 million US$ under the first phase of funding for e Bharat.
The World Bank advance of three million dollars under e-Bharat is for preparatory activities including capacity building; Project Preparation, Preparatory activities at identified States and Central Ministries.
The National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) has a vision of supporting citizen centric governance by ensuring accessibility of all government services to common man in his locality, through common service delivery outlets. This is expected to ensure efficiency, transparency and reliability of such services at affordable costs, and realize the basic needs of the common man. This Plan is proposed to be carried out through various Mission Mode Projects (MMPs), capacity building in government, creation of institutional structures, adoption of the principle of ‘centralized planning and decentralized implementation’, public private partnerships and policy reforms in public service delivery.
