Anurag Thakur, the union minister for information, broadcasting, youth affairs, and sports, today launched a stinging criticism at Rahul Gandhi, the former MP for saying he is not Savarkar. In a series of tweets, Union Minister Anurag Thakur reminded Rahul Gandhi that Veer Savarkar's name stands for tenacity, determination, ardent patriotism for Bharat, selflessness, and loyalty to the Motherland, and that he could never be Veer Savarkar, even in his fantasies. Veer Savarkar didn't go on holiday overseas for six months each year or look for outside help. Anurag Thakur said, "When Savarkar travelled to England, he blasted the bugle of war against the British to free Mother India from enslavement." Rahul would have understood the error of his ways had he read the letter sent by Indira Gandhi praising Savarkar's bravery. Veer Savarkar's service was not only acknowledged by Mrs. Gandhi, but a stamp was also issued in his honour, the minister said. He repeated that Rahul Gandhi is hurting the memories of Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, and his own grandmother by thoughtlessly condemning Savarkar, whereas no patriot of those times said anything disparaging about Savarkar and, in fact, respected his patriotism and heroism.
