Chandigarh 6 February : The Bharatiya Janata Party Chandigarh under the leadership of its President Sh. Sanjay Tandon held a massive Protest Demonstration at the roundabout of Sector 7-8-18-19 and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India through the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration. As many as 551 party activists were arrested as they were trying to enter the prohibited area towards Punjab Raj Bhawan, where the Memorandum was to be handed over to the Administrator, Chandigarh and Governor Punjab.

A ‘water calculator’ was launched on thursday, jointly by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
The advantage of the micro processor based calculator was that it calculated the water requirement specific to each crop and location, Dr S Raman of IWMI, inventor of the device, said at the launch function.
It could also make exact recommendations of water requirements for each crop, he further said.

An enzyme HtrA2 that can clean cancer cells of a gene is believed to be responsible for deadly diseases discovered by U.K doctors.
Dr Jorg Hartkamp and Dr Stefan Roberts have found that the protease HtrA2 enzyme can “clean” cells of the oncogene — WT1 — which is found at high levels in many leukaemias and solid cancers such as breast and lung cancer.
They will work on developing new drugs for all these cancers which will help in elevate WT1 expression.

6 Feb : The Dental Council of India has demanded that dental colleges be set up in the country’s North Eastern region, Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar.
“Out of the total dental colleges in the country, about 60 per cent are in South India. Only few colleges were setup in North Eastern States, Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar.
