31 Jan : Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest Jairam Ramesh was on Sunday gheraoed in Hyderabad by people opposing to the introduction of Bt Brinjal in the country.
The protesters from Left-affiliated farmers’ outfits and Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) raised slogans like “Bt Go Back” and mobbed the minister on the dais at an event organised at the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA).

31 Jan : Leander Paes equalled the record for most Grand Slam title triumphs by an Indian as the veteran and his Zimbabwean partner Cara Black clinched the Australian Open mixed doubles Championship with a straight-set win at Melbourne on Sunday.
Top seeds and favourites, the 36-year-old Paes and the 30-year-old Black beat 10th seeds Ekaterina Makarova of Russia and Jaroslav Levinsky of Czechoslovakia 7-5 6-3 in just about one and a half hour.

29 Jan : The Maharashtra government is planning to set up a high-level committee comprising the Governor and Chief Minister to tackle ragging cases in the state, taking serious cognisance of the suicide of a law student in Pune recently.
“We have proposed a high level committee comprising the Governor, the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and the Ministers related to education field to monitor the issue,” Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope said.

29 jan :India is hopeful that “something will come out” from the investigations into attacks on Indians in Australia, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur said as the body of Ranjodh Singh, killed in that country late last month, was brought back in New Delhi on Friday.
