17 September 2009 No Comment

16 Sep : The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at PGIMER is organizing the 2nd National Conference of the Association of Obstetric Anaesthesiologists from September 18 to 20, 2009.  Over 100 national and international faculty and about 500 delegates from all over the country are expected to participate in the conference.

Four pre-conference workshops on labour analgesia, difficult airway, resuscitation and research methodology will be held on 18th September, 2009.  Painless labour is now practiced widely and this workshop intends to update the knowledge about this technique.  A live demonstration of the techniques utilized for painless labour will be shown in this workshop.  The resuscitation workshop aims to train physicians and nurses in the technique of basic life support in situations of cardiac arrest of an obstetric patient.  Administering general anaesthesia using a tube in the windpipe in mothers undergoing cesarean section is difficult.  The workshop on difficult airway will help an anaesthetist to decide on best approach to use in this situation.  These worshops will be interactive and the participants will have hands-on training on the manikins using the latest and advanced equipment.

The conference proceedings will start on 19th September with the prestigious ‘Association of Obstetric Anaesthesiologists’ Oration’. The scientific programme has been carefully selected to include topics of interest to practising anaesthesiologists as well as trainees.  It will focus on recent advances in the anaesthetic care of mothers undergoing cesarean section, painless labour and critical care of high risk pregnant women.
