Dear Dr Avnish
This is my stern reaction to the latest news in papers regarding the toxic effect of Ayurvedic metal-based medicines among the American researchers. Who are creating hype about the thing that the metals found in Ayurvedic medicines sold in American commenting
negatively on the Ayurvedic system but still in a way they are showing interest in Health shops have heavy metals like Mercury and Arsenic
that according to modern concept are toxic for the human body as it has damaging effect on kidneys and other organs.
In one way I feel that it is a blessing in disguise that though the American researchers are exploring this undiscovered region
of medicinal value that has been in use since generations and giving finest results to humanity.
The news clearly mentions the statement that metals like Mercury and Arsenic are in use but no clinical reports have been taken
up to find out the effect of these metal-based medicines on the people using it.
So this gives me a chance to claim that I being an Ayurvedic physician (Vaidya) had been prescribing these metal-based drugs to my
patients for the last 32years and have received immense appreciation for the same. As my patients get back to me with all positive
effects of the metal-based medicines which infact give immediate results in comparison to the simple herb based drugs.

Here I would like to explain to all those who have complain regarding the presence of Mercury and Arsenic in Ayurvedic medicines
that it is important to have a complete understanding of the methodology used in preparing these medicines. Modern science is not at fault
when they claim that these metals are toxic. They are toxic; no one denies that, not even Charak and Dhanwantry!!! But when used in
Ayurvedic medicine they lose their elemental properties of toxicity and gravity. They are churned and grinded with so many herbs that they are given
an organic form to be easily consumed by the body.
On churning with various herbs Mercury tends to grab the medicinal effect of the herb and it acts as a carrier of that particular herbal
effect to the body.I'm glad that American researchers are taking due interest in experimenting with Ayurvedic medicines but it is important
for them to inquire complete knowledge of the same. They shouldn't just focus on the in-vitro study done in labs and make false claims as
such claims will snub them from winning the blessings of Ayurvedic sages to heal humanity. All ayurvedic study is done on live human bodies
and diagnosis of disease is done on energy levels of Vata, Pitta and kapha. And all efforts are made to bring these tri-energies
in balance with the help of herbs and metals like mercury, which possess the healing touch.
This is high time that the Central Council of Research in Ayurveda and Sidha should come forward to promote the right research
work in Ayurvedic field and prove its efficacy . Otherwise the day is not far off when Americans will claim that Ayurveda is a patent of
American researchers. I feel sorry to say that if the conditions prevail like this, India will be loosing on its finest heritage, which
is more precious than the Taj Mahal.

We feel that there is an intentional falacious campaign being mooted all over regarding the increasing popularity for Ayurvedic system of treatment and medicinces which are much more safer then the allopathic system of medicines and are definately required for healthy life. The role of minerals and trace elements has been acknowleged in every system of medicines.Finding any content above the permissible level does'nt mean that the system is not right but one can just fail that particular sample and issue warning to the manufacturer to adopt standarisation process.....thats all.The deparment of AYUSH should take serious note of this international conspiracy.............kishore kumar sharma(Vashisht's Ayurvedics,Chandigarh).
