8 June :P racheen Kala Kendra with aim to develop hidden talent of the children for their holistic  development organised  its 16th month-long Production Oriented Workshop  in  Dance and  Theatrical arts  this year again at its both the complexes in Sector 35, Chandigarh and Sector 71, Mohali.

The aim of the Kendra in holding such workshops was to occupy children in productive activities. The workshops which started on May 20 are in its full-bloom now.  About 80 children between  the age groups of 5 to 15 years are  learning  intricacies of  Kathak  dance  under  the guidance  of  young  exponent of Jaipur  gharana  Samira  Koser  while lessons in Theatrical arts are being imparted by  Parveen Jaggi in Chandigarh.  The dance and theatre workshops at Mohali are being conducted by Renu Panth and Anita Shabdeesh respectively.

In the begining of the workshop, there were inhibitions in children.  Some were vocal but most of them were reluctant and did not feel comfortable when asked to perform and act on the stage as they have fear to come on the stage.  Now after passing nearly 15 days, the toddlers can be   found lisping their dialogues.  The children will exhibit their histrionics in the concluding function of the workshops which is taking place at Punjab Kala Bhawan on June 22 and 23, 2008.  Apart from that Punjabi, Haryanvi, folk dances of Gujarat, Kerala, Goa, and Maharashtra will also be performed by the children.

Children are being imparted basic knowledge and techniques of classical and folk dances of various states, make-up and costume designing, hand gestures, theatrical arts including acting, make-up & costume, action,  body movement, speech-modulation, story telling, creative writing music and theatre games etc. It has been made sure that every child  is given proper attention.
